The different types of anesthesia are general, sedation, regional, and local. With each type, there are a set of guidelines to keep you, the patient, safe. For more invasive surgeries and for this article, we will address general anesthesia. General anesthesia can be a blend of inhaled gases and IV-administered medications, the patient is fully “asleep” during the procedure.
